Vegan Pesto Recipe – What Is The Best?
Pesto – the traditional Italian sauce made of basil, pine nuts, olive oil, parmesan and fiore sardo cheese. Now I know the cheese is one of the main reasons pesto usually tastes so good, so I scoured the web for some vegan alternatives that could match or surpass the traditional version.
So here are some of the best ones I could find!
Healthy Vegan Pesto Recipe By Turtlewoman
This version of vegan pesto is gluten free, has a good dosage of good fats and with nutritional yeasts, brings in a whole load of other nutritional benefits. Nutritional yeast is packed with essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals and also essential fatty acids. As an added bonus it can really make up for the missing texture and creaminess that you might lose in the absence of cheese.

Vegan Pesto Recipe Without Nutritional Yeast By Gluten Free Goddess
Probably a simpler recipe, which is also relatively low in fat. What I love about this recipe is that it gives you the option to ix the herbs you want to use – basil, parsley and coriander can all feature and also the nuts you use. It doesn’t rigidly have to be pine nuts.
What this means is you have endless possibilities to try your own flavour and texture combinations. Also this recipe doesn’t use nutritional yeast, so if you have any issues with using the yeast, you’ll be pretty happy with this one.
Spicy Vegan Pesto Recipe By Veganosity
This is a vegan pesto recipe with a little bit more of a spicy kick to it because of the addition of giardiniera to it – which is a relish of pickled vegetables.
To add some depth and creaminess to the pesto, they use soaked cashews. Given cashews are often used to make vegan cheese as well, I can see this working extremely well although I haven’t tried it myself yet.
